METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN
Less than 24 hours remain on the countdown clock Konami recently slapped on its Metal Gear Solid V site, fueling speculation that The Phantom Pain — a continuation of last year's Ground Zeroes title — is set to hit the shelves soon. An official announcement is expected on Wednesday at 9 am EST. In the meantime, here's what we know: While Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are closely linked, the latter is much larger in scope — the main event after what's being described as more of a palette-cleansing prologue.
"The Phantom Pain has the risk that people won’t be able to finish the story," director Hideo Kojima told IGN last year, "as it will be more than 200 times bigger than Ground Zeroes."
According to PC Gamer, the two parts of Metal Gear Solid V may also be the franchise's last. "I'm finally closing the loop on that saga," Kojima says in a leaked video that reportedly confirms a September 1 release. "Even if the Metal Gear saga continues, to me this is the last Metal Gear."
