It's been years since Marilyn Manson had an album as well-received as The Pale Emperor, a fact that isn't lost on modern rock's longtime enfant terrible. If you ask him for an honest answer, Manson will tell you that his last couple LPs lacked focus, and it took a newfound appreciation of rock's blues roots to regain his creative footing. That certainly seems to be the case on lead singles like "Third Day of a Seven Day Binge," "Deep Six," and "Cupid Carries a Gun" — songs that swagger and stomp their way across our speakers like the Stones headlining a biker bar. And to think Manson once wrote a song called "Rock is Dead," putting one well-placed nail in the coffin he just cracked wide open.
